Mark Mackenzie

Named as “one of Scotland’s most promising young acts” by Data Transmission, Mark Mackenzie is a fast rising name in the UK music scene. Previous releases on mau5trap, Fly Boy, Concrete Music and Arthouse have gathered support from the likes of Deadmau5, Icarus, Hannah Wants and Illyus & Barrientos among many others.

As a born and devoted Highlander, Mark spent years shaping and developing his local club scene with intimate parties and forward thinking music policies. Welcoming world renowned underground guest DJ’s to share the booth in the Northern city of Inverness, it wasn’t long before his production talents were picked up by BBC Introducing and then Portsmouth based label Concrete Music.

In the years to follow, Mark Mackenzie’s music featured in DJ sets across the globe with international and national club, festival and radio plays, including BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Rinse FM. ‘One Two Step’ became a favourite for many, with Hannah Wants and Kry Wolf repeatedly showing support. More success soon followed with ‘Earworm’ which charted well into the Beatport Top 100, and Beatport themselves went on to name it one of their ‘Must Hear House’ picks.

After a run of top selling releases on Concrete Music, charting UK producers ‘Icarus’ were quick to sign him to their renowned label ‘Fly Boy’. It’s here that Mark adapted a production style that would further project his name into the UK Scene. Singles ‘Tell Me What’, ’Swell’ and ‘Sunstroke’ went on to gather support from more heavy hitters such as Axwell, Lane 8, 99Souls, Eton Messy and Tough Love to name a few.

“Sunstroke” fell under the radar of Deadmau5’s label Mau5trap, and it wasn’t long before Deadmau5 himself was showing his full support for Mark’s production efforts, featuring the track on his BBC Radio 1 show with an early announcement of an exclusive deal with the Canadian and US label. In 2019, Mark’s official remix of ‘Hurricane’ featuring Scene Of Action, was released on deadmau5’s ‘Mau5Ville 3’ Album on mau5trap. Meanwhile, B-Side “Millennial Groove’ featured in Icarus’ Essential Mix for Pete Tong – a timeless feature and honour for Mark who lists Icarus as one of his biggest influences.

Mark’s ability to reach out to multiple electronic genres is mirrored in his DJ and Live performances. Long hours crate digging, tuning and editing, as well as years of experience holding down residencies with some of the North’s top club events, makes Mark a true selector with a passion. As a founder and resident of one of Scotland’s most talked about, sell out parties ‘OutDores’, Mark has proven himself to be a DJ who puts the crowd at the centre of his attention and continually works to push the scene forward.

It’s this integrity and knowledge for warming up crowds that earned him stage appearances next to some of the worlds biggest DJ’s such as Annie Mac, Skream, Leftfield, Faithless and Basement Jaxx.
